These pieces are the beginning of experimentation into creating a large scale series of narrative paintings . I am interested in translating memories into the visual, connecting together imagery and objects collected from the everyday to tell stories and keep records . I have begun to explore paintings as unreliable narrators of experience, intending for each piece to document a different period of time. I am interested in approaching the boundaries of painting as a medium to represent the transitory and remembered.
The site of display has become increasingly central to my practice, which initially referenced archival processes, exploring how a collection of work can be arranged and linked together visually.
I have used initial installations of smaller scale work to further my painting process, layering imagery within large scale works to create narrative pieces based on periods of time- designed to be presented in a linear order. I am influenced by visual media that seeks to present narrative- exploring aspects of theatre and tapestry.
